Annie Smith brings over 30 years of experience in major corporate communications with notable successes in internal and external affairs initiatives. She has led crisis communications responses and drills; planned and executed award winning public-private community and educational partnerships; and managed domestic and international external affairs operations.
During her career with BP, Annie served as a public information officer (PIO) on numerous incidents. She responded in events such as BP's Texas City refinery explosion, Thunder Horse integrity incident, Alaska pipeline spills and the Deepwater Horizon response. She not only served as PIO in a number of major graded drills with the US Coast Guard, but received individual recognition for her exemplary support. She served as crisis response manager for BP America where she provided assurance on the completion of all business unit hurricane response plans and training. Her team delivered plans for a fully functional alternate business site in San Antonio in the event of major office impact in Houston. Annie also delivered crisis response media training and coaching to BP leadership teams.
She is known for her seasoned leadership, coaching expertise, strong communication skills, teambuilding and relationship management facilitation and her broad experience across the energy industry.
Annie began her career with Amoco Production Company in Denver and progressed in the company through a variety of postings inclusive of the company’s merger with BP. She retired from BP in 2009 and currently works as a communications consultant for several companies and as the executive director of the The Arc of Katy, a non-. She also is active in small business development, urban gardening, contemporary art and civic initiatives.
